People and Disappointment

Whether it’s a blind date or a blind business lunch, you probably have expectations of the person you are about to meet. The majority of the time it’s probably a positive expectation.

If the person doesn’t meet your expectations immediately, though – if they are late, unattractive, rude, or maybe a different gender (email and unisex names can be confusing) – your encounter is going to be off to an awkward start (at least for you).

Strive to disconnect from expectations, especially of people. People are unpredictable, and probably completely different than what they appear to be on paper (or online). If you can do this, even a little, you’ll be more accepting of the individual and get more out of every personal encounter.

Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.” ~Alexander Pope
